Many people feel unsure about whether to pursue an assessment – whether they’re a parent, young person or educator. Sometimes, a full diagnostic assessment has already been completed but support still isn’t working. Sometimes, everything looks fine on paper, but school isn’t. Sometimes, we just want to know whether we’re doing the right thing.
At Beautiful Brain, we work differently. We do not test “for the sake of it”. We test when the evidence suggests there’s a barrier to learning or when a learner needs a clearer profile to move forward. This might include academic, cognitive or access arrangements testing. We do not make formal diagnoses such as autism or ADHD but we may recommend that a young person is referred for further investigation if traits are consistently present.
We talk first. Always. Sometimes assessment isn’t the next step – sometimes, it’s the right kind of teaching or the right kind of advocacy. I help you decide whether assessment is the right next step – and if it is, what kind of assessment and what kind of recommendations will be most useful.
Assessment sessions are available both face-to-face and remotely (less desirable). Sessions are typically 2.5-3 hours depending on attention and processing needs, with rest breaks. I offer assessment for individuals of all ages – school-age through to adults.
You will receive a written report and – wherever appropriate – a shorter version for school. In most cases, you’ll be offered a review session to discuss your results and next steps. Most people choose this by Zoom, though it can be done by phone or email depending on access needs.
Reports are typically returned within 7–21 days. All reports are written by Jessie, a qualified teacher and Level 7 Psychmetric Assessor who has worked in senior leadership roles. Reports can be used to inform EHCP applications, SEND reviews, or to support private school admissions.
“We do not hand over a report and walk away. We explain your results and help you understand how to use them.”
