Assessments for Families and Post-16 Candidates 

This page is for families, carers, or individuals aged seeking assessment. 


  • Assessments are conducted by a qualified specialist assessor with a current CPT3A and EAA Level 7 certificate and is fully compliant with JCQ regulations. 
  • The assessor has up-to-date safeguarding training. 
  • The assessor attends annual JCQ trainings to ensure regulation updates are applied. 
  • Current DBS / ICPC are available to be viewed.
  • Insured


Assessments may be used to support applications for examination access arrangements i.e. as part of 'normal way of working', a base for historic evidence.

Full Academic Diagnostic Assessment


This is a detailed diagnostic report for students experiencing persistent barriers to progress in literacy, working memory, processing speed, or handwriting.


The report can be used to:

  • Inform teaching and support plans in school
  • Contribute to an application for Exam Access Arrangements (EAA)
  • Create an evidence base for future assessments.

  • visual/verbal processing, and
  • cognitive speed


  • Attainment testing:
  • reading accuracy,
  • reading speed,
  • comprehension,
  • spelling,

How and When?

  • Face-to-face or remote delivery available (I strongly recommend face to face, but understand that sometimes remote is an only option)
  • Written report within 2–3 weeks



Face-to-Face Assessment (Home or Agreed Venue)

  • All students
  • A full diagnostic assessment tailored to the learner’s profile
  • Takes approximately 2.5–3 hours, including comfort breaks
  • Immediate broad verbal feedback; written report within 2–3 weeks


Includes:

  • Background consultation (parent or self)
  • SENCo/Teacher questionnaire (if in school): Parents must inform the school of the assessment, identify a named point of contact (e.g. SENCo or class teacher), and provide their email address through an email of introduction (template will be provided). The assessor will then communicate with the school ensuring you are cc'd to all communications.
  • The school will have no more than 14 calendar days to complete and return the questionnaire(s).


Remote Assessment (Over Zoom) - this is not a preferred method

  • Suitable for students aged 10+ with appropriate home setup, ONLY
  • Parents must provide photographic evidence that the home setup meets shared requirements prior to assessment
  • An accessible adult must be present in the home or venue at all times during the assessment. The candidate must not be the only person present in the building or assessment space.

  • Conducted via a secure platform with prior preparation
  • Requires adult supervision for under-18s
  • Same outcomes as face-to-face assessment


Parent/Client Requirements:

  • Reliable WiFi connection
  • Quiet space with desk and suitable device
  • Webcam, microphone, headphones
  • Lined paper, pens, and any normal way of working tools (e.g. reading overlay, glasses)

Process

Important Deadlines:


  • Parents/carers must contact the named school SENCo and share their email address no later than three weeks before the assessment. 
  • The SENCo will be responsible for sharing the teacher questionnaires internally and supporting their return.  Other than the SENCo no school email addresses need to be shared.
  • Completed parent/carer, candidate, SENCo, and teacher questionnaires must be submitted no later than one week prior to the scheduled assessment date.

Stages:

Step Stage Details
1 Pre-booking Brief screening form to confirm suitability
2 SENCo Contact Deadline Parents/carers must contact the school SENCo and provide their email address at least two weeks before the scheduled assessment. The SENCo is responsible for sharing the teacher questionnaire internally.
3 Booking £100 deposit required to reserve a date
4 Questionnaire Deadline Completed questionnaires (parent/carer, candidate, SENCo, teacher) must be returned no later than one week before assessment.
5 Preparation Background questionnaires and teacher input are reviewed (if applicable)
6 Assessment Day Agreed venue, approx. 2.5 hours including breaks
7 Post-assessment Verbal summary and full written report provided within 2–3 weeks
8 Optional Follow-up Consultation Follow-up call for questions

Information to Gather Before Assessment


To ensure a full and accurate profile can be built, parents/carers are encouraged to gather and share the following information where available:

  • Most recent school reports (including attainment, behaviour, attendance if possible)
  • Historic school reports.
  • Certificates of achievement or awards
  • Behaviour or incident logs (if applicable)
  • Record of previous schools attended, with start and end dates
  • In school activities and sports, leadership positions, out of school activities.
  • Full name of candidate as shown on passport or official ID
  • Copy of candidate’s birth certificate or passport (used for confirming identity on reports)
  • Any EHCP or SEN support plans past and present
  • List of current subjects studied (especially for secondary/post-16)
